This is quite cool. The team at Realm Pictures has created an interactive Hitman experience in which people control a real Agent 47 (well, real as in he’s played by a bald, barcoded actor) as they seek out targets in a sprawling, item-filled mansion.
Just like the game, the participants–sitting in a room where they have access to maps and more–can control the Agent 47 character, telling him where to go and what to do (lots of fake-killing). Also like the game, it doesn’t always work out for Agent 47–if you mess up, he gets “shot” and you start over.
Take a look at the video above to see how it works; the production values are pretty great (via Kotaku). A behind-the-scenes video that explains more on the project is available here.
Obviously this is not very practical, as Agent 47 being followed around by a camera operator is not the best for stealth. But that’s not really the point.
Hitman is scheduled to launch on March 11 for PS4, PC, and Xbox One as an episodic title. For more on why the developers chose episodic as a business model, you can read GameSpot’s interview on the subject. Additionally, IO recently discussed and detailed Hitman’s real-time “live content.”
