Slowly but steady we are progressing towards the Western release of Black Desert, that will include the EU/NA and Russian versions. If you lost the track on the recent events, I’m here to do a small recap:
Black Desert RU
I guess that the first one to launch Black Desert outside the Asian market will be GameNet, the Russian publisher. The first closed beta testing was completed two months ago and since then, the team work hard to complete the localization process (I know you all hate this part and I completely understand you). Beside the translation that is already completed and the voice acting changes that are nearly done as well we can expect several new features/mechanics to be introduced for the Russian players.
Details about the final test phase (Open Beta) will be announced soon, but until then I invite you to take a look at the latest Black Desert RU Trailer that was released a few hours ago.
Black Desert EU & NA
Yes, yes I want it also, but we will have to wait a little longer. Don’t worry, this is not your usual “soon” marketing phrase as our dreams and hopes will be fulfilled this year. Some of you already know, but I need to say it again as this is a very important thing, the Western publisher for Black Desert will be no other than Daum (same as the KR one). You all know what happened to ArcheAge and other MMOs when the publisher rights are sold to third party publishers, right?
Daum recently opened a European office in Amsterdam and they are already working hard on the English client (you can see their first screenshot below). This is not a 0 to 100% process as they were already working on this since 2014, but you need to understand that the focus was on the KR release, so there are still a lot of things to be done.
The most frequently asked question is “When are we going to be able to play the English version?” so here’s the answer that Community Manger Oli told us during a recent interview:
You will be able to play the English version of Black Desert Online for the first time from this year. Note that prior to the Alpha, there will be an early test version of the game but I need to ask players to be a bit more patient about the specifics of when the Alpha or Beta will start this year.
Another thing worth mentioning is that Daum is planning to release the game for NA and EU “almost at the same time”. I like how Oli said that they are trying “to avoid at all cost the bad impression left by other Korean game companies that bring their games to the west with quality standards that don’t match the expectations of US/EU players”. Sound as pure marketing, but it’s good that they know exactly where they stand and what needs to be done.
The interview also stated that they are looking at DX12 and Virtual Reality, but nothing concrete is available, yet.
I am very happy to see that Oli already started to interact with the western community by answering our questions during several interviews and by actively participating on the Black Desert reddit.
Important Note! We are preparing another interview in the near future, so if you have any questions about the English version, post them in this special thread.
If you can’t wait any longer, we are currently running a Black Desert KR account Giveaway so don’t miss the chance to register on our forum and take part in this event.
